 Rotary Youth Driver Awareness

RYDA is a community based initiative of Rotary with Rotary partnering those organisations in our community which have a responsibility for or interest in road safety for our youth. It has been developed in consultation with the RTA and the NSW Government Departments of Education and Training, Health and Police. Local Councils and the business and philanthropic community support the program.

The RYDA program aims to address the alarming number of deaths and injuries from road crashes in the Illawarra through the delivery of practical road safety information at a local level and where possible using local resources. This one-day program is designed to reinforce the K-12 road safety curricula already being implemented in Schools and provide an opportunity for Year 11 students to access additional road safety resources.

The RYDA program is designed to specifically address the issues of speed, fatigue, alcohol and the wearing of seat belts. The program also addresses issues including risk-taking behaviour and peer pressure with responsible decision making being addressed in the area of financial and legal responsibilities of the road.
